MEGT Domestic Education Changes

MEGT has decided to withdraw from the domestic VET market.

Following are the key points which have also been posted on the intranet.

Our priorities during the restructure:
  • Ensuring our students, staff, clients and other stakeholders are supported through this transition period
  • Ensuring MEGT’s reputation as a longstanding and trusted organisation is upheld while we undertake this change
  • Ensuring staff are continually updated throughout this process

What exactly is changing?
  • MEGT Institute will no longer offer vocational education and training services to domestic students in certain delivery areas
  • At this stage, this change does not affect Ability English or the Trade Skills Centre
  • MEGT Institute will continue to provide education and training to international students
  • VET FEE-HELP students will continue to be trained and supported in accordance with our contract until December 2017
  • MEGT (Australia) Ltd. will continue to offer RMS and ANP services as normal

When will the change take place?
  • Delivery of domestic education has already ceased in SA and WA
  • Changes to remaining states will be structured and rolled out progressively, and staff will be informed as this occurs

What does this mean for students, clients, and other stakeholders?
  • Institute staff will work with existing students and clients to ensure they are transferred to other RTOs with minimal disruption to their studies
  • We will also be working closely with other external stakeholders (including State and Federal departments and ASQA) to ensure we remain transparent in our communications and are complying with all applicable regulations during this time

What does this mean for MEGT Institute staff?
  • MEGT Institute staff will continue to be a valuable part of the MEGT team, ensuring a smooth transition for our students and clients and making sure our records are complete and compliant
  • As we progress, we will be attempting to redeploy staff within the organisation where possible
  • Alternatively, we will work closely with staff to transition them to appropriate roles that may be available within other training organisations
  • For further information, please view Section 151 - 171 of the MEGT Staff Enterprise Agreement 2015-2018
  • All staffing decisions will be made in consultation with relevant employees and in accordance with our Enterprise Agreement

Staff support
  • Any change in organisational structure can leave staff feeling concerned or uncertain and we encourage staff to contact the Employee Assistance Program for free, confidential advice and assistance
  • If you have any questions please speak to Gloria, Marike or myself, and any HR specific questions will be directed to P&S.

Responding to media or external queries:
  • If approached by any media, please follow the escalation process outlined in MEGT’s Media Policy.

This change in organisational structure will have its challenges but MEGT is committed to ensuring staff are supported during this time and will work to minimise any impact to day-to-day operations.

Thank you for your professionalism. I look forward to working with you through this transition.
