Update on ASQA’s new audit model
31 AUGUST 2016
You may have heard ASQA is developing a new approach to audit as part of its suite of strategies to strengthen its risk based approach to regulation. The new approach, which is soon to be piloted, was developed following a review of contemporary and innovative regulatory models and feedback on current audit practices.
The new audit model places a much stronger focus on the actual practices and behaviours of providers and more closely follows the student experience. Key features of the new approach will be increased student input—through surveys, interviews and focus groups—and more timely and effective regulatory actions.
If your RTO is selected for an audit as part of the pilot, ASQA will contact you and provide you with more information about the new audit model.
You can read more about ASQA’s audit model here.

NSW Full Skills List for 2017
New Skills List
32 new qualifications on the 2017 NSW Skills List
The NSW Government has announced 32 new qualifications will be added to the NSW Skills List for 2017 in addition to over 700 subsidised vocational education and training courses currently on offer.
The Skills List defines the qualifications eligible for government funding and reflects the need to reinvigorate and modernise courses available to students while meeting the specialised skills needed by industry.
Industry and employers were consulted to identify the skills they need to support NSW's high jobs growth and strengthen its skills base by providing the vocational education and training that connects young people to jobs and that meets industry demands.
The 2017 NSW Skills List will support NSW Government priorities such as the $73.3 billion infrastructure program and the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It also supports the initiative to encourage take-up of qualifications in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), subjects which are critical areas for the workforce of the future.
Over half of the qualifications added to the List are higher qualifications at Certificate IV and above level which all go towards upskilling the NSW workforce. New qualifications that support the Government's infrastructure program include the Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying and a Certificate II in Trenchless Technology. There are also subsidised courses in the high-tech skills area with a Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games and an Advanced Diploma of Information Technology Business Analysis.
Three qualifications will be removed from the Skills List due to a lack of enrolments.
